Principal's Corner

Welcome to Oswegatchie Elementary School, a community focused on supporting the whole child through rigorous academic, social, and emotional educational opportunities.  We strive to provide an environment that promotes educational equity and success for all through a multitude of researched best practices.

The Oswegatchie staff recognizes that every student has a distinct learning profile and developmental history.  Therefore, we embrace creativity, perseverance, and flexibility so all students have a chance to reach their individual goals.  Through the workshop model in Literacy and Math, students are presented with high-quality academic content in whole group lessons, and through differentiated delivery in small groups and individual teacher/student conferences.  We are very proud of our efforts in technology to both engage students and identify progress via effective and efficient assessment processes.

Our behavioral expectations are focused on kindness, respect, responsibility and safety.  Positive social interactions are crucial to a student’s progress, and we look to a restorative approach when navigating bumps in the road to maintain a supportive and safe school climate.   We recognize that many behavioral struggles are the result of skills in need of extra support, so we value social-emotional learning in the same regard as academic learning.

Our relationship with Oswegatchie families and community members are a pillar of our success.  We are here for you and your children, so we encourage timely communication to support our mutual expectations of positive experiences for all of our students.   Thank you for your support in making Oswegatchie such a special place.

Sincerely,
Joseph Macrino
